I don't often run with my phone, unless I'm in a city or Jonathan is traveling and I'm flying solo. Go ahead and tell me it's dangerous and there are creeps out there. I know this, but my time on the trails or pavement is mine and when I carry my phone along, I feel like I've an intruder. Risky or silly, it is what it is and besides, I have Dandy with me. Who needs a phone when you have a DandyDoodle?
I did it.
I slowed to the moment.
I headed towards the sunlight, up and down the rocky path, hopped stone to stone across the creek without getting my feet wet and to the car. I'd just opened the hatch and was filling Dandy's water bowl when I heard, "'BECCA!" and saw the radiating smile of a new friend. I'd just finished and she was just headed, but both of us on a journey.
We stood in the parking lot for nearly an hour sharing pits and pieces of our journey, past and present, then ended by making a date to meet on Thursday morning at the same place, this time we will run together. As she headed up the trail and I drove off, I thanked God for his winking and my slowing. I realized had I not paused, snapped a picture & played with DandyDog, I'd have missed out on the gift God had for my morning.
What gifts await you this day if you will slow, maybe even stopping?
